Decorate Fireplace Mantel With TV

Mounting a TV above the fireplace can be tricky, but with the right approach, it becomes a cozy focal point. I like starting with balance. Since the TV naturally draws the eye, I add low-profile décor on either side—think candles, stacked books, or small potted plants. This keeps the look clean without competing for attention. Less is more here. The goal is to frame the screen without making things feel too busy or cluttered.

I’ve found that symmetry isn’t always necessary. Sometimes, an off-center setup brings more personality. For example, placing a taller vase or a sculptural piece on one side and a shorter item on the other adds interest. The key is to keep everything in proportion. A bunch of small trinkets won’t work if your mantel is wide or the TV is large—it just looks scattered. Bigger accents keep things grounded and intentional.

Another fun way to bring character is layering. I’ll prop up a piece of art or a framed photo behind a few items so it peeks out from behind. Even though the TV is front and center, these layers soften the tech look and give it a personal touch. You can even lean a wooden sign or mirror behind your items if you don’t want to hang more things on the wall. This also gives you the freedom to switch things up whenever you feel like it.

Seasonal touches are another trick I use. In the fall, I might drape a little garland with warm tones or add a few pumpkins. In winter, some greenery or twinkle lights go a long way. It makes the space feel updated without changing the whole setup. The TV stays put, but the vibe shifts with the season. Just don’t go overboard—stick with a few key accents that play well with the rest of the room.

Finally, I pay attention to color and texture. If the TV and mantel area feel a bit too flat, I bring in materials like ceramic, wood, or metal. A matte vase or a woven basket can break up the shine from the screen. Neutral tones usually work best, especially if the rest of the room already has a strong palette. At the end of the day, it’s all about making the space feel like it belongs together—TV included.
